Serology for human papillomavirus.
نویسنده
چکیده
Difficulties with serology for papillomavirus are associated with the large number of human papillomavirus, cross-reactions between papillomavirus, and to the diversity of lesions and target sites for infection. In addition, the expression of the papillomavirus in the superficial layers of the epithelium gives rise to the weak presentation to immunocompetent cells of viral antigens, which in turn gives rise to a weak serological response. Distinct efforts have been made in previous decades to develop more specific and sensitive serological assays. These former studies use fusion proteins and synthetic peptides, although they remain on the whole uninteresting, due to their lack of sensitivity and specificity. Only in the last few years, and principally due to the advent of various virus-like particles (VLP), have more sensitive and specific assays become available. Human papillomavirus antibody reference reagents for use in postvaccination surveillance serology.
Suitably controlled serosurveillance surveys are essential for evaluating human papillomavirus (HPV) immunization programs. A panel of plasma samples from 18-year-old females was assembled, the majority of the samples being from recipients of the bivalent HPV vaccine. Antibody specificities were evaluated by three independent laboratories, and 3 pools that displayed no antibodies to any HPV typ...
متن کاملLack of type-specific concordance between human papillomavirus (HPV) serology and HPV DNA detection in the uterine cervix and oral mucosa.
There is limited knowledge about longitudinal genotype-specific concordance between human papillomavirus (HPV) serology and co-existent presence of HPV DNA in the uterine cervix. The role of oral HPV infections in inducing serological response is unclear, as is the effect of HPV antibodies on the outcome of oral HPV infections. The present study is part of the Finnish Family HPV Study designed ...
متن کاملAbsence of Human Papillomavirus in Benign and Malignant Breast Tissue
Background & Objective: Malignant breast tumors, which are one of the most important deadly cancers in women, like many other cancers, are proposed to be related to viruses etiologically. Proper management of breast carcinoma necessitates an identification of the etiological factors. Human Papillomavirus is considered to have an etiological role in breast carcinoma. We...
متن کاملHeparin-based ELISA reduces background reactivity in virus-like particle-based papillomavirus serology.
The interaction between human papillomavirus (HPV) particles and cell surface heparan sulfate requires intact conformation of the HPV particles. Type-specific HPV serology is currently based on virus-like particles (VLPs) with intact conformation. Presence of incorrectly folded VLPs in VLP preparations is recognized as an important cause of cross-reactivity in HPV serology. Heparin-coated micro...
